How much does a kitchen respray cost?

What UK respray firms publish per door and per kitchen, why the same kitchen can be priced at £1,400 or £2,562, and what to check before you agree a price.

Updated 28 October 2026 · The Kitchen Resprayer

The short answer

UK respray firms' own published prices for a whole kitchen run from £600 for a small kitchen in Birmingham to £3,500 at the top of one Leeds firm's range. Per door, published rates run from £62 to £110.

What sets your price is scope: whether removal, refitting, end panels, plinths and the fixed units are included, and whether VAT is added on top.

These are list prices from firms that publish them, read in October 2026. They are a starting point before anyone has seen your kitchen, and each firm counts different things in the price.

One kitchen, four price lists

Take an ordinary kitchen: 14 standard doors, 2 tall larder doors, 8 drawers, 2 end panels and 4 metres of plinth. Run it through four firms' published lists and the totals look like this.

FirmList price for the same kitchenWhat that price covers
Kitchen Respray BlackpoolFrom £1,400Its 15 to 20 door package; it says a typical kitchen of that size totals £1,000 to £1,850
The Kitchen Respray Factory£1,568, plus VATDoors and loose parts collected, sprayed and returned for you to refit
Spraying Revolution£1,600 to £2,080Plinths included
Berk Spray CoFrom £1,800 (flat) or £1,920 (shaker)End panels and plinths included
The Kitchen Respray Factory, fully fitted£2,562, plus VATAdds removal and refitting (£244) and on-site spraying of the fixed units (£750)

Worked from each firm's published list before any survey. Real quotes depend on your kitchen.

The lowest per-door rate on these lists is not the cheapest job once the fitting and fixed parts are added. When two quotes look far apart, line up what each one includes before you compare the totals.

What moves the price

How many doors and drawers

The count drives the price far more than the size of the room. Chameleon, based in North Yorkshire, says two kitchens in rooms the same size can differ by a third or more.

Door style and size

Berk Spray Co charges £5 more per shaker door than a flat one, and the lists that price by size charge more for larger and larder doors.

What the doors are made of

Vinyl and foil wraps, swollen edges, water damage and old handle holes all add preparation.

Workshop or in your kitchen

Many firms, Matt Finish and Ultimate Decor among them, take the doors away and spray the fixed parts on site. The Kitchen Respray Factory lists spraying the fixed units as a separate £750.

Colour

A big colour change can need extra coats. The Kitchen Respray Factory charges £50 for a colour match and £75 for two colours; Spray Genius lists a bespoke colour match at £60 to £120.

Islands, utility rooms and trims

Spray Genius lists an island at £250 to £500, a matching utility at £250 to £450, and cornice or pelmet at £15 to £40 a metre.

Handles

Matt Finish doesn't supply handles but fills old holes and drills new ones; The Kitchen Respray Factory fits new handles at £5 each.

VAT can add a fifth

VAT is 20%. A business only has to register once its taxable turnover is over £90,000, so a sprayer below that may not charge it, and one above it must.

Of the eight firm price pages above, only The Kitchen Respray Factory says its prices are subject to VAT. The rest don't say either way. On a £2,000 job that is a £400 question, so get the answer in writing on every quote.

What a good quote lists

The firms that publish itemised prices show what a clear quote looks like. Before you compare two, check each one says:

  • Doors by size, drawers and end panels
  • Plinths, kickboards, cornice and pelmet
  • Fixed parts, carcass fronts and cupboard insides
  • Who takes the doors off and refits them
  • Vinyl or foil removal, priced as its own line
  • Colour match, two colours or extra coats
  • Handles: supplied, fitted or holes filled
  • What is excluded, such as worktops and hinges
  • The deposit, and when it is due
  • The guarantee, and what it covers
  • Whether the total includes VAT

Booking fees and deposits vary. Revamp Kitchen Resprays in Somerset asks for a £150 booking fee to secure a slot, and its page doesn't say whether that comes off the final bill.

Respray or new kitchen?

A respray keeps your cabinets, worktops, sink and appliances, which is where most of a new kitchen's money goes. FMB Home Picks puts base cabinets at 30 to 35% of a new kitchen's cost, with worktops and appliances 15 to 20% each, and installation another 15 to 20%.

RetailerCabinets for a 12-unit kitchen (Which?)
Ikea£1,500 to £2,500
Benchmarx£2,500 to £4,500
DIY Kitchens£3,500
B&Q£4,000 to £5,000
Wickes£2,500 to £7,500
Wren£3,000 to £6,000
Magnet£7,000 to £9,000

Which?, 27 April 2026: cabinets, handles, cornices, plinths, pelmets and end panels, VAT included, before worktop, sink, taps, appliances and fitting. Which? adds that labour is roughly 20 to 30% of the final spend.

Replacing only the doors sits in between. Dream Doors, a door-replacement franchise, says replacing the doors typically costs up to 50% less than a full new kitchen.

Cost is only one part of that decision. Respray, new doors or a new kitchen: how to decide covers when a respray is the right call and when it isn't.

Common questions

Published rates run from £62 a door (The Kitchen Respray Factory's smallest size) to £110 (the top of Spraying Revolution's range), with drawers from £30. Tall larder doors cost more: Kitchen Respray Blackpool starts them from around £100. Check whether end panels and plinths are in the door price or charged on top.

Kitchen Respray Blackpool lists from £800 for up to 10 doors. Colourhaus in Leeds starts a kitchen of up to 10 doors and drawer fronts from £1,500, and Spray Genius in Birmingham publishes £600 to £900 for 8 to 10 doors. What is included differs between them, so compare the line items, not the headline.

Yes, by a wide margin. Which? found cabinets alone for a 12-unit kitchen cost £1,500 to £9,000 depending on the retailer, before the worktop, sink, taps, appliances and fitting. Respray firms' published prices for a whole kitchen run from £600 to £3,500, and the cabinets, worktops and appliances stay where they are.

None of the sources read for this page publishes a measured lifespan, but the guarantees firms give tell you what they will stand behind: two years at Matt Finish, five years on the coating at Colourhaus, and ten years at Kitchen Respray Blackpool and Ultimate Decor. Ask what the guarantee covers, not just how long it is.

Paint can only hold as well as the surface underneath it, so skipping the cleaning and keying puts the finish at risk. Most of what you pay a sprayer for is that preparation, which is why the cheapest quote is not always the same job.

How to paint kitchen cupboards properly

Usually, because they need extra preparation before they can be painted. None of the firm price lists read for this page publishes a separate charge for it, so ask for the vinyl or foil removal to be priced as its own line.

Often you can't tell. Of eight firm price pages read for this page, only one says its prices are subject to VAT. VAT is 20%, and a trader whose taxable turnover is under £90,000 does not have to register, so ask every firm whether the figure includes VAT.
